Adding Content to Portfolios

Every section in your Portfolio should have content. This can include artifacts, descriptions, reflections, photos, videos, and other media types.

Editing a Section

  1. Click the pencil icon to the right of a section header
  2. Provide a title, description, and artifact, as appropriate
  3. Click the Save button when you are done editing the Section

The content editor allows you to use extensive formatting options, such as bold, italic, underline, text color, lists (bulleted or numbered), tables, hyperlinks, photos, embedded videos, and mathematic/scientific equations. You can also directly edit the html used to format the text, if you are familiar with html code.

Adding a Photo to a Section

You can embed images in common images types, such as GIF, JPG, JPEG, BMP, PNG, and TIF

  1. Click the Pencil icon to the right of a section header
  2. If you only see one row of buttons at the top of the content editor, click the Show More button at the right, which is represented by an ellipsis (...)
  3. In the second row of buttons, click the Plus (+) icon
  4. In the pop-up window, click the Insert Local Files link to upload a file from your computer
  5. To adjust the image settings, right click on the image and choose Image from the menu
    1. Type a brief description in the Alternative description box. This ensures that your image will be accessible to users with vision impairments who use a screen reader
    2. Optional: Adjust the Width and Height of your image; when the lock is closed, these will remain proportional to avoid stretching or squashing your image
  6. Click the Save button to save the changes to this Section
  7. Recommended: Click the Done Editing button to save the changes to the Portfolio before continuing to edit. There have been issues with photos not being saved correctly if you do not follow this step.

Embedding a YouTube Video

The easiest way to add video to a Portfolio is to first post the video to YouTube, and then embed the video in a Section of your Portfolio.

Once the video is posted to YouTube, the Privacy option must be set to Public or Unlisted. Private videos cannot be embedded.

  1. Copy the URL for the video from YouTube
  2. Click the Pencil icon to the right of a section header
  3. If you only see one row of buttons at the top of the content editor, click the Show More button at the right, which is represented by an ellipsis (...)
  4. In the second row of buttons, click the Plus (+) icon and select YouTube Video
  5. Paste the URL for the video in the Search box and click the Go button
  6. Click the Select button for the video you want to embed
  7. On the next page, change the View setting to Embed Video
  8. Click the Submit button to embed the video
  9. Click the Save button to save the changes to this Section

Other Options for Adding Videos to Your Portfolio

You could also add the video to Kaltura instead of YouTube. To embed the video in your Portfolio, upload the video to Kaltura then copy the embed code from Kaltura. In your portfolio, click the HTML button (<>) in the Portfolio text editor and paste the embed code.
